May 26, 2008   Champion Jr. Conquers Woodhull in
Regional Pro Trucks
Woodhull, NY-  Although Ralph Champion Jr (27) was
credited with a win in 2007 , it was under a rain out
condition. He said then, “Well, a win is a win, right?”
Tonight during the annual Memorial Day Special, he was
able to hold off a hard charging Chris Leroux (32) to claim
his first real Feature win in a Truck.
Tim Povoski (2p) would lead the way to the green flag for
the 20 lap main event, but the Champion Scrap Metals
Chevrolet would set the pace after that, leading all 20 laps.
Lap traffic became a factor with 5 to go allowing
Chris
Leroux to close the gap in the closing laps. Try as he may,
Leroux could not get the bite off the bottom that Ralph had
on the top side of the speedway and would have to settle
for second. Tim Povoski would come home with a top 5 in
his new Learn Motor Company Dodge, While brother
Terry would charge back up to fourth after a spin.
The feature event went flag to flag under the green, due in
part to the sportsman like moves of some drivers who
would keep going even after a spin. The one way radios
that are mandatory are key in this as track officials were
able to tell the driver it was clear to proceed
Champion and Leroux will split the Precision Move of the
race award, sponsored by Precision Automotive in Elmira,
NY. Both drivers put on a great battle in the closing laps
while working around lap traffic Showing they have what it
takes to race hard, and race clean.
